Traffic alert: lights malfunctioning again - updated, council still to respond to alert

By Neil Speight 1st Jul 2020

MOTORISTS at a controversial Thurrock junction are once again being forced to run the risk of accidents following a traffic light failure.

For more than a year temporary traffic lights have been in place at the Stanford Road and Buckingham Hill Road junction after a botched job to install permanent lights as part of a planning agreement to allow the building of hundreds of new homes in East Tilbury.

Though it was the authority that granted permission and is the responsible highways agency Thurrock Council has consistently failed to take positive action to solve the problem.

It says it is not responsible and has passed the buck to Persimmon Homes rather than fix it.

In the meantime there have been dozens of accidents caused by malfunctions and driver confusion.

Thurrock Nub News has informed the council of the latest failure. At 10.55am Thurrock Council conformed they has received several reports about the failure but the lights remained jammed on red at 1pm when we last checked.
