SAINT Nicholas Church offers a beautiful glimpse into South Ockendon's architectural past. Its weathered flint walls, ancient gravestones and distinctive round tower give the church a wonderful sense of character, reminding us of the many generations of people who have visited, worshipped and cared for this special place.

Standing proudly on the village green, St Nicholas Church is one of South Ockendon's most fascinating historic buildings.

With parts of the church dating back to the 12th century and its distinctive circular tower dating from the 13th century, the building has witnessed centuries of South Ockendon's history.

Generations of people have grown up in South Ockendon with the church forming an important part of the local community. Many people have their own memories and stories connected to this beautiful historic building, making it much more than just an old church — it is a treasured part of the village's heritage.

I captured this photograph in black and white because I felt this brought out the textures, weathered stone and historic details of the building.
