16-year-old arrested and charged following knife incident in Grays

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with a series of offences as part of a local police response to an incident in Grays on Wednesday, 8 April.
Videos of the incident have circulated on social media, including one where a youth brandishes a knife as he approaches a group of other teenagers.
A police statement says: "We were alerted to the incident taking place in King George playing field, off Blackshots Lane, at 3pm during which a group of young people had been threatened with a weapon.
"Thankfully, no one sustained any injury during the incident.

"Officers arrived and carried out work to establish what had happened.
"A teenage boy was subsequently arrested in Grays.
"We've now charged a 16-year-old boy with a possession of a knife or sharp article in a public place, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and assault.
"He is due to appear in Southend Magistrates' Court on 28 April."
Chief Inspector Danny Barnes, Thurrock district commander, said: "We won't tolerate serious, threatening or violent behaviour in Thurrock.
"When reports such as this are made to us, officers will respond quickly and make arrests – as this incident shows."
