THE community work of a Thurrock school and the way it motivates and works with its pupils has seen it nominated for a top borough honour.

Arthur Bugler School in Stanford-le-Hope has been recognised as one of the 'happiest schools' in the country thanks to a series of initiatives.

The school's good work was recognised at the recent Thurrock Education Awards and now it is up for more accolades after being nominated in the public vote section of the civic awards.

Arthur Bugler has been recognised in the 'Healthy Living' category.

In the nomination organiser Thurrock Council says: "This school promotes a holistic approach to positive mental wellbeing and was recognised as one of the UK's Happiest Primaries.

"It prioritises children and adults' happiness above all else. The school oozes happiness and well-being through its abundance of positive incentives embedded throughout the school.

"These include Headteacher Awards, Golden Time, Platinum Award, Attendance prizes, positive phone calls to parents, the Tree-mendous school display acknowledging helpful people and Well-being Wednesday, Thumbs up Thursday and Fun Time Friday assemblies.

"The Well-being Committee work endlessly to celebrate the work of everyone in school.

"The PTA raise thousands of pounds every year. Staff receive a 'Hug in a Mug', a 'Parents Evening Survival Kit' and 'You are a Hero' gifts. The school works with the community to spread the happiness far and wide including intergenerational work to celebrate Remembrance Day and supporting families less fortunate with Foodbank and Christmas present donations through the 'Gifting Tree'.

"They also encourage fundraising inspiring a new generation of young people to support others less fortunate than themselves."
