Purfleet Pantry people produce perfect party

By Nub News Reporter   17th Dec 2025

RESIDENTS in the west of Thurrock enjoyed a special Christmas treat, thanks to the efforts of volunteers from Purfleet Pantry & Hub.

Twenty-eight residents celebrated the festive season with a volunteer-organised party in the Community Hall of the Mulberry Drive Complex in Purfleet.

There was plenty of fun to be had, as guests tucked in to a two course Christmas dinner before being keep well entertained with a festive bingo and quiz.

The guests came from across the borough, including Purfleet, West Thurrock, Aveley, and South Ockendon.

One more special guest was also in attendance, all the way from the North Pole, as Father Christmas paid a visit to deliver a cheerful Christmas gift. Among those to receive a gift was 93-year-old Chrissy, who was the eldest of the attendees.

Volunteers also prepared takeaway Christmas dinners for eight house-bound residents which were delivered to their homes.

The Purfleet Pantry, which recently celebrated its first birthday, has become a cornerstone of the community, providing support, food, and companionship to residents.

Cllr Steve Liddiard, Deputy Mayor, joined the celebrations and Santa bore a remarkable resemblance to Cllr Aaron Green.

Cllr Liddiard said: "This was such a great day made possible because of the dedication of volunteers and the support of local housing staff. The residents enjoyed not just a festive meal but a wonderful afternoon of companionship and entertainment."
