A day when it all added up for borough youngsters

PUPILS from 20 borough schools came together to compete in a maths challenge.

After a day's activity the team of young mathematicians from from Tudor Court Primary School emerged as winners of the Thurrock Primary Mathletics Competition. West Thurrock Academy were second and Corringham Primary third.

The competition was hosted by The Gateway Learning Community and was run in partnership with the Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock.

It provided a challenging, engaging mathematical experience that is both competitive and educational and is open to all primary schools across Thurrock, who are invited to submit a Year 5 team of four pupils to participate in the event.

The other schools that took part were Arthur Bugler Primary, Aveley Primary, Belmont Castle Academy, Benyon Primary, Bulphan C of E Primary, Chadwell St Mary Primary, Deneholme Primary, Gateway Primary Free School, Giffards Primary, Herringham Primary Academy, Holy Cross Catholic Primary, Horndon on the Hill C of E Primary, Lansdowne Primary Academy, Little Thurrock Primary, Somers Heath Primary, Tilbury Pioneer Academy and Woodside Academy.

All pupils were awarded a certificate for taking part in the competition.

Dan George, head of school at Lansdowne Primary Academy said the pupils worked extremely hard and were a credit to their schools.

He added: "It was fantastic to see primary maths geniuses at work, problem solving and working together in their teams.

"We are very much looking forward to welcoming more schools to join the Thurrock competition next year. A huge well done to the Thurrock Primary Mathletics Competition winners, Tudor Court Primary School.

"Thank you to Thurrock Rotary Club for enabling the event to go ahead each year.
