IN the wake of considerable social media comment about bullying and how it is handled in school, the headteacher of St Clere's School in Stanford-le-Hope has delivered a message to parents.

Over recent days criticism of the school for failing to manage bullying within the school between pupils has reached something of a fever pitch on social media, with many derogatory comments about the school and some members of staff. Others haves responded by praising the school and have pointed the finger at bad parenting as much as any fault in the school's performance.

The row continues to run vociferously.

Headteacher Mrs Ashlie Hughes spoke briefly to Thurrock Nub News to say: "Under our Co-operative values, we will not tolerate bullying of any form.

"While we clearly cannot discuss individual incidents, I can confirm that all complaints are taken very seriously and are thoroughly investigated with outcomes reported back to families of those concerned. This will include a suitable sanction and follow up work, in line with our Co-operative values.

"We have clear ways for children to report concerns confidentially and our pupils value this. There are many routes for parents to contact the school if they have any concerns. It will always be children's best interests for parents to take this course if they wish to support their child at school."
