A SERVICE is being run to help young people in Thurrock cope with issues surrounding their gender, transition and sexual status.

The group 'Proud to Be Me' is aimed at all young people in the LGBTQI+community between the ages of 12 and 19 in Thurrock and the surrounding area.

It offers safe places and spaces for young people to meet up, where they can make friends and get advice.

There are also social activities including pool, table tennis, air hockey and board and card games.

And a library of books and information of a wide range of relevant issues is available.

Parents and carers are welcome at the group meetings, which are held at a local venue though it is only released to those taking part to ensure safety and anonymity if required. A seperate room is provided for them where they can have a cuppa and talk to other parents and carers.

Sessions are free to attend but the volunteer organisers would welcome a small donation of around £2 per family.
