A COUNCILLOR from the north of the county has been selected as Labour's candidate for Greater Essex Mayor following a countywide selection process including a series of local hustings for party members.
Adam Fox has served as a Colchester councillor for seven years, including as Labour Group Leader and Deputy Leader of Colchester City Council.
Labour says that during his time in office, he helped deliver new council homes, secured investment in the local economy, and worked with businesses through the North Essex Economic Board to support growth and jobs.
Mr Fox will shortly launch his official campaign and announce his key priorities to deliver the change Greater Essex needs.
He said: "I'm genuinely honoured to have been selected as Labour's candidate for next year's Greater Essex mayoral election. I want to thank every member across our county who took part in the process and put their trust in me — it means a great deal.
"Essex is my home, and where I've worked for the past 20 years.
"I understand the challenges people here face because I see them every day - whether that's the pressure of rising costs, finding a good home, or the frustration of unreliable transport. People across Greater Essex deserve better, and it's time to deliver the change our county has been waiting for.
"Between now and May 2026, my priority is to be out across Essex - listening to people and building the ideas and partnerships we need to make life better for everyone.
"I'm looking forward to working alongside our brilliant Labour MPs, councillors, and campaigners to drive real growth and opportunity across Greater Essex — building the homes, infrastructure, and future that make this the best place in Britain to live, work, and call home."
