Additional flats plan for town centre rejected
PLANNING officers have rejected a plan to extend three maisonettes in the centre of Corringham and turn them into six one bedroom flats.
The application was for properties above the shops on St John's Way in the town and relates to the first and second floors of two of the four units in the existing terrace.
However, it has failed to find favour because it would change the character of the area.
Planning officer Nadia Houghton says: "The proposal would increase the height of the overall building by approximately 2.8ms. "The majority of development in the vicinity is three storey and flat roofed, with some two storey with hipped roofs nearby. "A four-storey building would consequently appear noticeably uncharacteristic for the locality and would therefore be considered harmful to the appearance and character of the street scene and immediate area." The full report on the application and the reasons for Ms Houghton's decision can be found via this link.
