RESIDENTS in the East Tilbury area suffered power cuts after a blaze that took firefighters several hours to deal with.

The fire happened on Friday afternoon (25 July) when an agricultural vehicle caught light in a field off Church Road, West Tilbury just after 3pm.

Crews of firefighters from Basildon, Grays, Corringham and Orsett attended the blaze and extinguished the fire at 6.15pm, although crews are returned over night to dampen down the area and check for hot spots.

The fire affected high voltage power cables and some homes nearby experienced brief power outages but UK Power Networks reported the problem was quickly resolved.
