Another bid for over 55s homes in the green belt

YET another application has been submitted to Thurrock Council asking for permission to build homes for over 55s in the green belt.

It has become an increasingly common practice and the application for two new homes in Fobbing is also for bungalows, again a popular option.

The site for the two new bungalows is to the rear of Ewen House, south west of the 'High Road', near to St Michael's Church. The host plot comprises of a rectangular backland builders yard around 75 metres from the road.

The application says the shortage of elderly accommodation in the borough is clear and the bid deals with that shortage by allowing only the over 55s the right to live in houses tailored to their requirements.

The applicants add the proposal aims to fully respect the settlement of Fobbing and the associated green belt. They say: "To this end the application has be specifically designed to blend into the environment, while having limited if any impact on the residential amenity of the immediate neighbouring properties.

"The proposed dwellings have been designed to be a genuinely single storey buildings that integrates into the characteristics and appearance of the area, enhancing the wider green belt setting.

The proposed dwellings would sit comfortably within their respective plots served by the private access road. The 'outbuilding' design principle has been followed and 'scaled up' to become a traditional residential dwelling. The proportions would be typical of traditional bungalow dwelling, although with no possibility of a first floor conversion. These are single storey buildings for perpetuity."

Full details of the application and the opportunity to comment can be found via the link below.

Two single storey detached dwellings for people over the age of 55 on land to the rear of Ewen House with an extended width of dropped kerb to the High Road with minor alterations to Ewen House (external chimney changed to internal and bin store).
