POLICE officers investigating a robbery at Thurrock's Lakeside Shopping and Leisure Centre yesterday (Saturday, 10 February) have arrested a teenage boy.

A statement from essex Police says: "We were notified of a robbery at Lakeside reported to have occurred at around. 5.30pm.

"The teenage victim had his coat and airpods taken from him by a person who was part of a large group.

"Officers from Thurrock Local Policing Team searched the area and within a few hours a teenage boy was arrested at Lakeside on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody."

Chief Inspector Tina Cooper said: "Robbery is a priority for us and we will do all we can to deter and prevent offenders coming to our district to cause upset and trouble for our residents and businesses.

"My colleagues in the west and I all want the same thing – to ensure people are safe at Lakeside whether they come here to work, shop, eat or socialise.

"Robbery will not be tolerated and we will take action to ensure those who commit these offences are brought to justice."

A police appeal says: "If you have information about this incident that can help, contact us. Please quote incident 900 of 10 February when providing any information to make sure it gets to the right person as quickly as possible.
