Applicants in second bid to create new home

A SECOND attempt is being made to win planning permission for a new home to to built adjacent to an existing property in South Ockendon.

The previous bid for a two-storey house with two bedrooms was rejected on the ground that it harmed to the character and appearance of the locality – despite the fact that a number of similar extensions and new building have been permitted on the circular development on Mollands Lane.

The application before planners is for a property at 149 Mollands Lane which is technically in the green belt. However, the applicants say is part of an existing built-residential frontage and is one of the 'Established Residential Frontages' designated in the previous Thurrock Borough Local Plan.

Applicants quote the explanatory text of housing policy which says it is the sort of development where there are "…well defined frontages of tightly knit development….where there can be some relaxation of normal Green-Belt Policy without harm to the objectives of the green belt."

The new application contains changes to the design which the applicants say overcome the previous objections.

The full application and the opportunity to comment can be found via this link.
