DETAILS have now been released of last evening's incident in Grays when armed police were deployed.

A statement from Essex Police says: "Officers are appealing for the public's help following a firearms deployment in Grays last night. 

"Officers were called to Argent Street in Grays at around 7pm on Monday, 17 June following reports of a disturbance.

"Witnesses reported a group of men fighting armed with weapons. Armed officers were deployed following reports of a firearm being seen. 

"The group were located on Thames Road and a man was found with minor injuries. A weapon, believed to be an air pistol was located and seized by officers. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody. 

"Anyone who witnessed anything which could assist with this investigation, is asked to contact us quoting incident number 1133 of 17 June.
