YOUNGSTERS from Stanford-le-Hope's Arthur Bugler Primary School competed their London Mini Marathon challenge yesterday (Saturday, 25 aprtil), raising more than £5,200.

Twenty pupils at the school proved that 'when you dream big, big things can happen! '

The atmosphere in the capital was electric as the children navigated the iconic course, trying to stay as a swarm of bees throughout. A key highlight of the day was the team's collective ambition to capture a group photo outside Buckingham Palace on route, which they successfully achieved!

The pupils' journey began just eight weeks ago when the project was first launched within the school. What started as a fitness challenge quickly evolved into a community-wide movement. In a remarkably short timeframe, the school rallied up monumental support from, family, friends, the local community, local businesses, and even some world-famous celebrities such as Michael 'Eddie the Eagle' Edwards, Adele Roberts, Nitro and Eilish McColgan (who is currently tackling the TCS London Marathon today!)

Lucy Cordell, teacher at Arthur Bugler Primary and who is responsible for organising this event said: "This was never just about a race; it was a celebration of our school's incredible community spirit.

"Seeing our community rally together has been truly overwhelming. To everyone who donated, cheered us on, or lent a helping hand - thank you for believing in our children. You've shown them that when we brave the unknown and step out of our comfort zones, you are capable of anything. When you dream big, big things can happen!"

While the physical training took eight weeks, the official fundraising campaign was only live for six. In that narrow window, the school raised more than£5,200 for the school's PTA.

The funds will be reinvested directly into Arthur Bugler Primary School. These resources will ensure that further opportunities and extracurricular activities are available to every child in the school, extending the legacy of the marathon far beyond the finish line.
