THE Asda petrol station in Tilbury could be given the green light to sell alcohol 24 hours a day under plans submitted to Thurrock Council.

The filling station on Thurrock Park Way has applied for a premises licence that would allow customers to buy alcohol for consumption off the premises around the clock, seven days a week.

According to council documents, the application relates specifically to the petrol station and seeks to mirror the licensing permissions already granted to the adjoining Asda store.

The site already operates 24 hours a day for fuel sales, but approval of the new licence would enable the sale of alcoholic drinks at any time, including overnight.

Licensing documents also show the application includes permission to provide late-night refreshment between 11pm and 5am daily. Under licensing laws, this generally applies to the sale of hot food and hot drinks during overnight trading hours.

The proposed hours for alcohol sales are listed as midnight to midnight, Monday to Sunday.

No additional conditions have been published alongside the application.

Premises licences are required for businesses wishing to sell alcohol or provide other licensable activities. When determining applications, councils must consider matters including crime and disorder, public safety, the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm.
