A SOUTH Ockendon man has been barred from boozing for a month after going on a drinking spree that ended in an assault on an off duty police officer.

George Luckings, 31, admitted assaulting the officer, damaging his car and being in possession of cannabis.

The incident happened in a Grays pub where Luckings had been drinking heavily.

At Southend Magistrates Court  he was sentenced to an 18-month community order, ordered to attend a rehabilitation programme and given a four-month alcohol ban.

He also must have an electronic tag fitted, and pay £395.15 compensation.
