VISTORS to Thurrock's town hall were surprised to see bailiffs in the building's public area – demanding a payment, believed to be £27,000!

The incident happened last Friday (26 June) when the bailiffs entered the café and atrium area and reportedly said they needed payment or they would be seeking to take goods to an equal value from the council.

The bailiffs were ushered away for discussions after a senior council officer was called, and it appears the matter has now been resolved.

A statement from the council today (Tuesday, 30 June) says: "This related to an outstanding utility bill for a commercial property owned by the council. The bill has now been settled."
