Ball bearings fired at swans and cygnets at Thurrock nature park

POLICE have called for anyone who has information about the possible killing of swans at a Thurrock nature reserve to come forward.

The Essex Police rural, wildlife and heritage crime team has reported that cygnets and mature swans have been attacked and shot with ball bearings fired by catapults.

The action is beleived to have led to the death of some birds at the Chafford Gorges Nature Park.

Police have released an x-ray picture of a bird struck by a ball bearing and asks that anyone who has witnessed anti-social behaviour in the area or attacks on wildlife to come forward.

A statement says: ""If you have any concerns about antisocial behaviour you can submit a report online at https://www.essex.police.uk where you can use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm. Alternatively call 101. Always call 999 in an emergency."
