A DEVELOPMENT company is testing the water with Thurrock Council and hopes to build six new homes on a plot of open space in the heart of a Stanford-le-Hope residential area.

The land is on the Homesteads estate and this is the second time an application has been to develop it for housing – the first was rejected in 1954!

Sixty-nine years later Weybridge-based LY Development have brought the issue back to the planning department with an outline application for a terraced block of six homes.

The site is a large rectangular plot of land used as public open space covered in grass. It is surrounded by residential dwellings to the south, west and north. Directly east is a footpath called Delius Way, and 10m further to the east is the Hassenbrook stream which flows parallel to the site from north to south.

The application is with 'all matters reserved' effectively a sounding board to find out if the council would be minded to support the application.

Residents have the opportunity to comment on the application on the planning portal, via this link.
