Borough death toll up by four - but Thurrock shows a spike in victims compared to England average

THE total number of people in Thurrock whose death has been attributed to coronavirus has risen by four according to the latest published figures.

Death certificates on 122 local people have been linked to Covid-19, meaning almost a quarter of all deaths in the borough from 20 February to 22 May involved the virus.

The total number of confirmed cases of cornavirus, which is up to today (5 June), is 339 out of a population of 174,341.

Nationally the death toll has now topped 40,000. 40,261 deaths have been recorded of people with a positive test result for Covid-19, while the detah certificates of 48,106 mention the virus.

Across the UK 283,311 have been infected.

New comparative figures released by the government show that Thurrock, which traditionally has a significantly higher number of deaths in the first quarter of the the year than the England average showed a big proportionate spike in deaths in late April and early May.
