POLICE have reported on a traffic operation in Grays and Aveley, which they mounted following concerns expressed by resdients.

Community Policing Team officers carried out an operation targetting speeding vehicles and other road related matters.

They started in Broadway following on from a recent residents meeting where police were told that parked vehicles were an issue outside the shops causing an obstruction. Also that HGVs breach the weight limit restriction. 11 vehicles were moved on from the Broadway and police gave advice to drivers.

Drivers were stopped while going too fast on the Lance Corporal Nicky Mason Way

Officers then moved to Lance Corporal Nicky Mason Way – formerly known as Aveley by-pass. Drivers were stopped while driving in excess of 50mph in the 30mph section. In total over 35 vehicles were stopped and given speed warnings, though police have not specified if fines and points are applicable.

Numerous mobile phone and seat belt offences were identified and dealt with and five children were identified as not being suitably restrained in a child seat.

A driver with a licence infringement and no insurance was reported and a vehicle was seized.
