Bus service withdrawn from town after missiles were thrown
By Nub News Reporter 24th Jan 2026
THE action of vandals, reportedly children, who threw items at buses left a borough town without a service this evening (Saturday, 24 January).
It has been reported that at least two buses were attacked by missile-throwing youngsters in Stanford-le-Hope - where bus services are already severely disrupted and on diversion because of major roadworks.
The incidents happened in the early evening and First Bus Essex decided to withdraw its only night-time service to the town, the 100.
The service was already missing out on many town centre stops because of the closure of London Road, where a gas main is being replaced. A diversion takes the bus down King Street and High Street and then utilises the Manorway, stopping westbound at Rookery Corner - but there is no eastbound stop for the south of Stanford.
However, after the attacks, the 100 went on a complete diversion, leaving and entering neighbouring Corringham via the Manorway and going down the A1013 (Stanford Road).
Thurrock Nub News has contacted First Bus and Essex Police for comment, but as yet we have had no response.
It has not been stated how long the re-route avoiding Stanford will last.
It has also been reported that a bus was attacked in Tilbury earlier this evening.
Nub News spoke to a bus driver earlier this evening. Apologies for the poor sound quality.
