OUTGOING East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe has once again organised his annual Christmas appeal - and children at Basildon Hospital will benefit.

Mr Metcalfe, who is standing for the Conservatives in the South Basildon and East Thurrock ward, says: "For most of us Christmas is a time for happy family celebrations and getting together with friends.

"However, if you or someone you love has to be in hospital during the festive season it can be very difficult time– particularly for a child.

"That is why I am again appealing for donations to buy gifts for the children in Basildon Hospital.

"The presents have always been so gratefully received by the children, parents and the staff in the Children's Ward. I strongly believe in this very worthy campaign and am appealing to you to help.

"We hope to be able to buy gifts for children on the Children's Ward over the festive period and toys for use in their play areas for use all the year round.

"I assure you that any donations made will be used for this express purpose and gifts will be purchased under the direction of the nursing staff."

Donations can be sent to:

Stephen Metcalfe's Christmas Appeal, c/o 2, Orsett Business Centre, Stanford Road, Orsett, RM16 3BX

Cheques should be made payable to South Basildon and East Thurrock Conservatives and write "Christmas Appeal" on the reverse.

If you prefer to make a direct bank transfer, the account is "South Basildon and East Thurrock Conservatives - Charity Fund" (Sort Code 30-10-52 Account no. 16492868). Note, you cannot make cheques out to this account!

Mr METCALFE concluded: "I fully appreciate that we all feel the pinch at this time of year but, if we "dig deep", we can do a little to cheer up children who are unwell and have to spend Christmas in hospital.

"All donations will be most gratefully received and it would be appreciated if they could be with us by Monday, 16 December.

"May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and wish you a very Merry Christmas and peace and good fortune in the New Year."
