THE talents of a young musician have seen him crowned best in the borough and now he goes on to a regional final.

Sean Corrigan was the overall winner of this year's Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock's "Young Musician 2019" which was held at the Gateway Academy.

In the second year the club has run this event and organisers were delighted to see a 30 per cent increase in the number of students that entered.

The event was run in partnership with the Gateway Academy School, Thurrock Music Services and the Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock.

The competition started with the Beginners then moved to the Intermediate and finished with the Advanced Class.

Instruments used included the violin, piano, clarinet and drums. Each class had its own winner and at the end of the event an overall winner was announced that of Sean Corrigan who played Sonatina for Clarinet, composed by Malcolm Arnold.

Sean will now move to the Essex county level competition which will be held in the new year.

Rotarian Nicholas Wilkinson said: "I was delighted to see so many Thurrock students participating in the competition. The event gives students the opportunity to demonstrate the talent that exists in the borough!"
