Car smashes through shop frontage on busy Grays road

A VEHICLE obliterated the front window of a Grays convenience store last night (Wednesday, 12 March) - and damaged an adjacent estate agents as well.

Initially the incident was reported as a robbery attempt but further comment from police indicate it was a crash involving a drunk driver.

This morning police stood guard over the wrecked shop frontage on Orsett Road.

Shuttering was torn down and windows, doors and frames of the Grays General Store was obliterated. It is not yet known if anything was taken from the premises, a family business which has run from the site for many years.

The adjacent front window of the MS Estate Mortgage centre and estate agent was also smashed

An officer on scene confirmed the damge occured last evening but a full statement is expected from Essex Police shortly.

Nub News understands one person has been arrested.
