VICTIMS of domestic violence in the region could be helped by the granting of £213,000 following a successful bid for Home Office funds by the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

The money will go towards rolling out already successful perpetrator change programmes across Essex, such as the Change Hub, as well as funding awareness campaigns to help people recognise what harmful behaviour is and how they can get support to change.

Jane Gardner, Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex and Chair of the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Board, said: "Thanks to the great work of projects run by the Change Hub, people are getting help to change their ways.

"Obviously and rightly, anybody convicted of domestic abuse must face criminal consequences.

"However, sometimes people may recognise those early warning signs and can get help, through targeted interventions to change their ways and stop them from becoming abusers. Breaking the cycle of domestic abuse and preventing it from happening in the first place is where we want to be."
