INVESTIGATORS have been unable to determine the cause of a large blaze that was fought by teams of firefighters overnight between Wednesday and Thursday (3 & 4 April)

Firefighters were called to reports of smoke in Turnpike Lane, West Tilbury at 11:46pm on Wednesday.

On arrival, two crews from Grays reported eight lorries were on fire in a yard and requested the help of four crews from Basildon, Orsett and Corringham.

Due to the remote area, crews also requested a Water Bowser from Corringham to help shuttle water to the scene.

Firefighters worked to prevent the fire spreading to nearby units and extinguished the fire.

Station Manager Dean Riley said: "Crews worked quickly to establish a water supply and this helped firefighters contain the fire to the lorries and prevented it spreading to nearby units in the yard."

An investigation was carried out on Thursday but was unable to determine the cause of the fire.
