Charity brings Disney dream to life for youngsters

By Nub News Reporter 28th Dec 2024

YOUNGSTERS and their families who have been affected by cancer enjoyed a fantasy treat today (Saturday, 28 December) thanks to a borough-based charity.

The MCA Trust arranged a trip to see Disney On Ice at the O2 for a group of youngsters and close family members, who came together at the Foxhounds pub in Orsett - where the charity is based - for a breakfast and makeover event.

The children were able to dress as their favourite Disney and Marvel characters, before boarding coaches to take them to a VIP box at the O2 arena.

The Trust, set up in 2011 to mark the life of Michael Charles Adams MBE, is a dedicated charity for children with cancer supporting local children and teenagers through their childhood cancer journey.

Michael spent much of his life supporting children's charities and was honoured to receive an MBE in 2006 for his work on youth initiatives in his local community. In 2010, he lost a short battle with a brain tumour.

The MCA Trust is a legacy set up by his family and friends that has made a difference to many families' individual cancer journeys, alongside projects to benefit all users of children's cancer wards including those at Basildon Hospital, Broomfield and East London hospitals.

Working with specialist staff, the charity identifies and funds projects that make a real difference in the lives of children battling cancer. Some of the completed projects include purchasing sophisticated medical equipment and refurbishing dedicated children's oncology areas, all with the goal of creating a better experience for every user.

in addition the charity organises special events for children and families like today's trip to the O2.
