Charity seeks help as it brightens lives of borough's lonely and elderly
AN appeal has gone out for volunteers to help a Thurrock branch of a charity that helps older, lonely people.
Reengae has proved a hugely successful organbisation int he borough, helping brighten the lives of dozens of people by hosting tea parties and other evetns and, particularly duiring lockdown, making sure people isolated in their homes do not think they are forgotten.
Now the group is looking for people able to spend about four hours on Sunday afternoons and able to drive the charity's guests from home to venues.
It is also looking for people or businesses able to host events.
Local coordinator Loraine Coleman says: "It is not a big commitment of time, just a few hours a month for drivers or once or twice a year for hosts.
"Anyone with a downstairs toilet and no more than a few steps into their home can apply to be a host.
"If you enjoy tea and a chat and would like to alleviate loneliness among older people, please get in touch."
Loraine can be contacted by phone on 07468 573500 or email at [email protected].
She adds: "Our tea parties are full of conversation and laughter but we can't do it without you.
"Our volunteers make life long friendships and they say that volunteering with us has had a positive impact on their lives.
"It's a great way to give something back and enjoy tea and cake with our elderly residents in Thurrock."
