Updated: Child rushed to hospital after falling from flats window
A YOUNG child, reportedly aged four or five, fell from a third floor flat bedroom window in East Tilbury on the evening of Tuesday, 5 July and was rushed to the Royal London Hospital after emergency services were alerted.
The Essex Air Ambulance was among the medical services deployed but was ultimately not needed as the child was taken by land ambulance to hospital after the incident at around 6.30pm at flats on Coronation Avenue.
The child fell from a bedroom window at the flat which is close to the village's medical centre where a public access defibrillator is mounted. The machine was accessed during the emergency but as yet it is not known if it was used.
There has been no formal report on the child's condition, but on Wednesday (6 June) it was reported by family and friends on social media that he has a broken collorbone and a slight internal bleed which is not overly concerning doctors. The family has expressed thanks for many messages of concern and support.
The child fell around 20 feet and as emergency services attended police cordoned off an area outside the flat and it is understood an investigation is taking place into safety and security within the building.
A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called to reports a child had fallen from a window at an address in Coronation Avenue, East Tilbury at around 6.35pm on Tuesday, 5 July. Emergency services attended and the child was taken to hospital."
The East of England Ambulance Service reports: "We were called to Coronation Avenue at around 6.30pm last night following reports that a child had been injured in a fall. An ambulance, ambulance officer and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended. Crews treated a male patient at the scene before transporting him by road to The Royal London Hospital for further assessment and care."
