ALMOST half the population of Thurrock has now ben vaccinated against Covid-19, with 99,948 vaccines given out in the borough to date. 74,560 people have had at least one dose.
The most recent figures released show that Thurrock is now running below the average across England for the number of infected people per 100,000 members of the local population.
At one point last autumn, Thurrock topped the national average. Just 16 cases per 100,000 were recorded in the period between 20 and 26 April, the English average being 18. In real terms there were 28 cases of infection in that week, which is actually an increase of seven on the week before and takes the total number of confirmed cases in the borough to 17,901.Up to 16 April there have been 478 coronavirus-related deaths in the borough.
The vaccine offer has now been extended to anyone aged 40 and over. The vaccine is also being given to anyone who the following applies to:
- you're at high risk from COVID-19 (clinically extremely vulnerable)
- you have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
- you have a learning disability
- you're an eligible frontline health or social care worker
- you get a carer's allowance, get support following an assessment by your local authority or your GP record shows you are a carer
If any of the above applies to you, you can book your vaccination appointment online or call 119. If you are not eligible yet, wait to be contacted by the NHS who will let you know when it's your turn.
