A BOXING club in East Tilbury is hoping the local community will rally to its cause.

Smokeys Boxing club is based at East Tilbury Recreation Club on Princess Avenue and has proved a haven four many local youngsters and its impact on young lives was summed up by one mum who says: "My son was badly bullied and this club has made a huge difference to him and also to a lot of other children and is still doing so.

"The club promotes discipline, healthy living and fitness and children's wellbeing. Its aim is to keep kids safe from bulling, gangs and general bad behaviour."

The club is currently looking for local sponsorship and is seeking to have a defibrillator installed to ensure it can continue to host training and tournaments.

A raffle is currently being held towards the defibrillator for the club and any extra money made will be put towards a minibus for the club's use so fighters can get to and from shows."

The club has also organised a fundraising page online where you can donate via this link.
