AS demolition crews tear down its former premises, Thurrock Adult Community College has launched its new range of course offers for the coming year, with training and development opportunities to engage residents of all ages and abilities.

The college, which vacated its former site on Richmond Road in Grays last, which is being torn down to make way for housing developments, has relocated to a part of South Essex College in the town and other centres across the borough.

In its new prospectus, the college says for a limited time, health and wellbeing courses will be free. Maths, English and digital skills courses are free for all adults and many others may also be free for you to access subject to certain conditions.

Cabinet member for education, Cllr Barry Johnson, says: "Community learning opportunities have never been better, the team of tutors has expanded and new and exciting free courses have been developed in family learning, wellbeing and languages, while ensuring that digital skills, maths, English, English as a second language courses and employability training are at the centre of the course offer.

"Following feedback from the community, some of your favourite courses that had to be stopped due to the pandemic are back on the agenda, with new ones being introduced based on the needs of local residents too.

"Courses at Thurrock Adult Community College are part time and start and finish around school hours to allow parents and carers to drop off or pick up children from school. You will be enrolled on courses with people at a similar level to you, so there is no need to be nervous about taking the next step in your learning and development."

There has been considerable local unrest in the Richmond Road area about the demolition of the college and the negative impact on residents.
