LOCAL resident and long-standing volunteer Martin Chapman has been formally inducted into the Mayoral Roll of Honour by Thurrock Mayor, Cllr Sue Shinnick, in recognition of his outstanding service to the borough.
The award, presented during an official ceremony at Thurrock Council, acknowledges Mr Chapman's ongoing commitment to the community, including his work supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people as a director of local charity Get Started Art, and his leadership in designing, funding, and building the Stifford Clays War Memorial and Remembrance garden.
In her citation, the Mayor praised Mr Chapman for his tireless volunteering for many causes and the significant impact of his contributions across Thurrock. The honour is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to civic life and community wellbeing.
Mr Chapman said: "I am truly humbled by this recognition. At Get Started Art, we have always focused on supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people through practical help and creative community projects.
"I am equally proud to see the residents of Stifford Clays come together every Remembrance Sunday at the memorial and Remembrance garden, and I want to thank all the volunteers who helped to build it and who continue to maintain it throughout the year.
"It shows the strength of our community when we work together, and I'm grateful to have played even a small part in that."
Mr Chapman's name will now be added to the official Mayoral Roll of Honour, joining a select group of individuals recognised for exemplary public service in Thurrock.
