Community station is up for top honour

BASILDON-based community station Gateway 97.8 has been shortlised in the 2024 Community Radio Awards.

The station, which serves Basildon and East Thurrock, has made the shortlist, which was whittled down from entries from stations from every corner of the UK.

The station has picked up a nomination in the 2024 General Election Coverage category for their work "All Out Election".

The winners will be revealed in a ceremony in Cardiff on 16 November.

Gateway 97.8 political editor Johnny Jenkins said: "I'm delighted that our overnight election show has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award.

"We were lucky enough to win the award for our coverage in the 2019 election too. Well done to all of the hard working team."

Awards chair Martin Steers, said: "All those shortlisted should be proud of what they do for their station and their communities and we wish all the finalists good luck and we look forward to welcoming them to Cardiff in November.

"We wish Gateway 97.8 good luck and can't wait to see them at the ceremony inCardiff in November.
