RESIDENTS from across east Thurrock, many of them members of the Springhouse Club in Corringham, attended a consultation event at the club this week when its new development partners outlined revised plans for the site.

The event gave residents the opportunity to speak to representatives of Stonebond Properties, who are looking to redevelop the club in conjunction with its owners and members. And also to offer ideas and respond to suggestions via a survey, which can also be accessed online.

Previous approved plans for the site, given the green light by Thurrock planners in August 2021, have been discarded. The intention was to build four blocks of apartments, creating 95 new homes. The new development would include erection of new sports club with associated facilities including bowls pavilion, bowling green and petanque terrain, together with substantial parking.

Residents engaged with representatives of Stonebond at the consultation.

The scheme was described at the time as 'ambitious' and perhaps it was too ambitious as the club was unable to secure a development partner to build it.

However, its owners have now formed a partnership with Stonebond, who have drawn up news plans for the site featuring more houses in a development mix of starter and family homes creating nine 1 bed apartments, four 1 bed houses, 15 two bed houses, 53 three bed houses and five four bed houses, making a total of 86 new homes.

Stonebond says its vision of the site is to deliver family homes to meet local need and in turn deliver an enhanced sports and social club with more facilities for the community.

In addition, the proposed Sport and Social Club facilities include a floodlit all-weather 3G pitch, bowls pavilion and new green, a gym with studio, a climbing wall, petanque facilities, badminton court, a club garden and a restaurant and cafe alongside two bars.

Stoneband's plans can be viewed in detail via this link.

Local councillors John cecil (right) and Roy Jones (centre) were among those who attended and submitted their views.

When views expressed at this week's meeting, and online contributions, have been assessed Stonebond says it will work with Thurrock Council to make amendments to the existing proposal where necessary. The public will be provided with further details once the scheme has been amended, which will be shortly before the application is submitted, which it is hoped will be by the end of the year.

Once the planning application has been submitted, there will be a further consultation period which will provide residents with another opportunity to submit their comments regarding the proposals for the site.

The application will be subject to the council's planning committee's approval but, in expectation of getting approval, work on the site is projected to start in the Spring of 2026, with first residents moving in by the following summer and completion of the whole project by the summer of 2029.
