Company engages with borough's vulnerable and lonely for a very special afternoon

A PART hidden commercial complex unlocked its secrets for a group of visitors from Thurrock's Re-engage charity – and entertained them for an afternoon tea.
The Balfour Beatty complex adjacent to the Arterial Road, North Stifford, which used to be the Lakeside coach park, is a base for the company's local operations – many of which are connected with scoping works for the Lower Thames Cressing.
The company offered the opportunity of a visit to Re-engage, which helps local vulnerable, lonely and elderly people by hosting and running events.
Group Coordinator Volunteer Maggie Whitlock says: "What a great afternoon the guests from Re-engage Thurrock were treated to by Balfour Beatty.
"A lovely afternoon tea followed by a game of bingo. Freda won the first prize and then Iris won the rest.
"This was followed by a quiz won by Elizabeth.
"We always feel so welcomed by the staff and a big special thank you to Lauren for arranging this afternoon for us.
"We cannot do this without our very special volunteers."
Those thoughts were echoed by regional co-ordinator Loraine Coleman who added: "Such a lovely, happy afternoon. Thank you so much Lauren, your team and Balfour Beatty for treating our guests to a delicious afternoon tea with a lovely game of bingo and Spring Quiz.
"Thank you Maggie for organising and thankyou to our lovely volunteers. Without them these very special treats could not take place. It was a wonderful afternoon with lots of laughter."
