Construction misery goes on for residents in Aveley as workers press on through the night

By Neil Speight 8th Sep 2020

RESIDENTS in Aveley have spoken of their anger and frustration after construction workers apparently flouted planning rules and continued working noisily on a new distribution centre.

As midnight approached today (Tuesday, 8 September) residents filmed workers laying floors at the Segro Logistics site adjacent to the A13 and A1306 and close to a number of residential properties.

Noise and disruption from the site has gone on for months but despite pledges by Thurrock Council it appears little or no enforcement action has taken place as the work has gone on through the night and over weekends when the site is supposed to be silent.

This evening a resident, driven to despair by the noise, contacted Thurrock Nub News to say: "This is unbearable. This construction has been a never-ending blight on our lives, it goes on and on.

"The council do not seem interested in enforcing the regulations they have imposed despite us making complaints. It just seems no one cares about us - it's all about making money. It's a disgrace."

Thurrock Nub News first focused attention on the breaches of permitted building hours back in February.

And we [L]https://thurrock.nub.news/n/bid-to-extend-working-hours-at-controversial-new-distribution-site-after-covid-19-has-put-it-behind-schedule-say-developers [L+]revisited the story in June when a restriction of 9pm in the evenings was confirmed.

Other clips recorded this late this evening can be viewed here and here.
