By Neil Speight 9th Sep 2020

POLICE acted last night (Tuesday, 8 September) following reports of a car meet at an industrial estate in West Thurrock.

They were called at around 8.15pm after an event was posted online before vehicles started to congregate in Weston Avenue at around 8.45pm.

A statement last night from the police said: "We are monitoring the situation and we are considering the use of dispersal order powers, which will help our officers move cars away from the area.

"We will also be looking to take enforcement action against the organisers."

Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston said: "Anti-social driving from car meets causes disruption and distress within our communities and it diverts our officers from other incidents.

"We will have officers present and will take action against any person committing offences are acting in an anti social manner.

"We would urge anyone with information to call Grays police station on 101 quoting incident 1124 of 08/09 or you can visit www.esssex.police.uk.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
