Consultation launched on plans for Data Centre near Stanford-le-Hope
By Nub News Reporter 16th Jul 2026
PLANS have been revealed for the creation of a data centre on green belt land close to Stanford-le-Hope.
A consultation has been launched, offering local people the chance to comment on the scheme, which would see the creation of a two-storey building on land, currently used for agriculture, adjacent to the junction of Stanford Road and Buckingham Hill Road.
The data centre, to be called St Cleres DC, will store, process and run large amounts of data and software on the 8.400 sqm site.
The centre will be operated by DARE-DC and its planning consultants, the Pegasus Group, are set to submit an outline planning application to Thurrock Council after the consultation.
Pegasus say the proposed data centre building is likely to be a two storey structure around 20 metres high. Associated development would include a standby energy compound, electrical infrastructure, water storage and attenuation ponds.

Access to the site is expected to be from Stanford Road, likely through a new junction close to the existing busy connection with Buckingham Hill Road.
Pegasus add: "The site has been selected following an extensive feasibility process, which has considered many factors including highways safety, residential amenity, environmental designation, ecology, biodiversity, heritage flooding and agricultural quality."
More information about the project, and the opportunity to comment can be found via this link. The consultation page is here.
Land on the other side of the site, to the east of Buckingham Hill Road, which currently is used as a par three gold course, has been designated as suitable for residential development in the pending Thurrock Local Plan.
