THURROCK Council has appointed a building contractor to commence work for an affordable housing project in Aveley that will redevelop three blocks of flats into modern, high-quality homes.

Marfleet and Blyth were selected to help redevelop Teviot Avenue in Aveley into a thriving estate with homes fit for modern living in a scheme approved last year.

The redevelopment project will see three existing blocks of flats containing 36 council homes demolished, before the site is transformed into 48 affordable, modern council homes made up of a mixture of flats and houses.

Proposals for the redevelopment of numbers 158-228 (evens only) at Teviot Avenue was approved at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 13 March 2024.

The development work is set to commence in the autumn of 2025 and conclude in autumn 2027.

Cllr Mark Hooper, cabinet member for Health and Well-being said: "We are delighted that we have been able to appoint Marfleet and Blyth to commence work on the Teviot Avenue housing project.

"This will allow us to press ahead with the redevelopment and help unlock a new generation of social housing that meets the requirements of modern living.

"By rejuvenating this council-owned developed land which hasn't been used to its full potential and creating 48 brand-new flats and houses we can give our residents the high-quality affordable homes that they deserve."

Ricky Lewis, Construction Director for Marfleet and Blyth, said: "Marfleet and Blyth are thrilled to be supporting Thurrock Council in the redevelopment of Teviot Avenue.

Teviot Avenue

"It is an exciting project to be working on, which will have a positive impact on Aveley and the local community by giving more access to modern homes that fit people's living needs."
