A CONTROVERSIAL Thurrock councillor will find herself before a court later this month charged with repeatedly driving her two seater sports-style Mercedes car through roadworks on the A13 at a dangerous speed.

Mrs Abosede (Abbie) Modupe Akinbohun, 55, recently caused a stir when she switched allegiance in her South Chafford ward to the Conservative party, having been elected in 2018 under a Labour banner.

At Basildon Magistrates Court, Cllr Akinbohun, of Triumph Close, Chafford Hundred, admitted five charges of speeding in the 40mph restricted zone created for the safety of roadworkers widening the dual carriageway between the Orsett Cock roundabout and the Manorway Junction.

She did not appear for the hearing before magistrates but at the request of her solicitor sentencing was delayed until Friday, 27 March when the case will be considered at Colchester Magistrates' Court. She faces the possibility of a driving ban.
