Council action prompts landowner to make pledge to improve site

RESIDENTS can expect to see improvements at the Titan Works site on Titan Road after proactive engagement by the Council's Planning Enforcement officers secured a commitment from the landowner to undertake significant site improvement works.
The site, off Hogg Lane in Grays, was formerly operated by the Industrial Chemicals Group for chemical manufacturing and distribution. It was acquired at a cost of £50 million in 2022 by a joint venture between Chancerygate and Northwood Investors to be redeveloped into a Grade A urban logistics and industrial park
The council says in recent timkes the site has fallen into an untidy condition, 'negatively affecting the appearance of the area and prompting concerns about its visual impact on the local environment'.
Council planning enforcement officers carried out site inspections and, working closely with the landowner and their appointed representative, identified actions needed to improve the site. This included meetings on site to discuss clearance works and the replacement of existing fencing with more secure boundary fencing.
Following discussions, the landowner instructed a contractor and agreed for improvement works to begin this week.
The programme of works includes site clearance and upgraded boundary fencing, helping to improve the appearance of the site and enhance the surrounding environment.
Council leader Cllr Richard Bingley, said: "The condition of the Titan Works site had become a concern for the community, and I'm pleased our officers have worked constructively with the landowner to secure a commitment to address these issues.
"This is a good example of how proactive engagement can achieve meaningful improvements without the need for formal enforcement action."
