ACTION could finally be taken at one of Thurrock's most controversial junctions after years of safety concerns from residents.

The Bradleigh Avenue and Lodge Lane junction in Grays has frequently featured on Thurrock Nub News, though Thurrock Council's highways team has denied it is problematic, even though the authority made some changes in 2018.

Now it is being reviewed for possible safety improvements after being provisionally added to the council's next Local Intervention Programme to consider safety improvements, according to MP Jen Craft - who raised the issue in September.

She said: "I welcome the council's decision to provisionally identify this junction for its next Local Intervention Programme.

"Improving road safety and traffic flow is vital for residents, and I look forward to seeing the proposals developed in consultation with the local community to ensure they deliver real benefits for everyone who uses the area."

Ms Craft has also written to the council asking for residents to be involved as plans develop, including through a public consultation.

The latest move follows a meeting in September between residents, Ms Craft and the council's highways team to discuss longstanding concerns about the junction.

Residents raised concerns with the junction's layout saying it was confusing and unsafe, while other concerns were raised about HGV traffic and motorists ignoring the 20mph limit.

Some residents also said they believed official collision figures did not reflect the true number of incidents at the junction.

In a Facebook post, Ms Craft added: "Residents have been raising safety concerns about the Bradleigh Avenue junction for many years.

"This is a significant step forward and could lead to serious improvements at the junction."
