A TEAM of workers from Thurrock Council descended on the Tilbury Community Hub and War memorial earlier this week to cut back overgrown bushes, remove weeds, offer some TLC to flower beds and tidy up the area.

It came just a couple of days after Thurrock Nub News editor Neil Speight bereted the council for its lack of civic pride in leaving the area, a focal point for Tilbury, to degenerate.

We produced a comment piece and video highlighting the state it had been allowed to get into.

After the team completed its work, the council took to social media to trumpet its efforts, saying: "Our cleaning and greening team has been hard at work in Civic Square, Tilbury, trimming plants and removing weeds. This work followed reports from residents."

Mr Speight said: "While it would have been nice if the council had acknowledged it ws Nub News that primarily raised the issue, the more importanmt thing is the job was done. Hopefully the council will now be more pro-active and get about sprucing up some more areas that have been allowed to go to rack and ruin - otherwise I can always get my camera out and have anther rant".
