THURROCK Council has refuted allegations from ward councillors over alleged failures to repair street lights in Grays.

Nub News reported on the concerns of Grays Riverside ward councillors in this story: https://thurrock.nub.news/news/local-news/its-gone-on-long-enough-use-the-long-days-to-fix-our-lights-say-grays-councillors-143126. The story reported failures over two years to fix street lighting.

Today (Monday, 25 July) Thurrock Council issued a statement saying they have fixed the lights in recent days.

It says: "Repairs to four streetlights in the car park of Greenwood House, Grays, took place last week.

"All four defective lights had been repaired by the afternoon of Friday, 22 July. Three were repaired on Monday 18 July but the repair teams were unable to access the fourth column because of parked vehicles. They returned on Friday, 22 July and carried out the final repair.

"With repairs completed on Friday 22 July all five lights in the Greenwood House car park are now fully functional, as confirmed by two visits from the contractors carried out across the weekend.

"The best way to report issues with a streetlight is through the council's website at: thurrock.gov.uk/street-lighting. If the lights are on council housing land, as they are in this case, they should be reported as a housing repair at thurrock.gov.uk/housing-repairs-and-maintenance/reporting-repairs."

Over the past 18 months Thurrock Nub News has drawn attention to a number failures of facility maintenance in the south Grays area, with the council failing to respond on most occasions.
