THURROCK Council has called on resdients to help save many of the new trees it planted across the borough earlier this year and during last year's jjubillee celebrations.

The hot and dry spell of recent weeks is beginning to take its toll on some saplings.

A statement from the council says: "During the winter months our tree team was busy planting new trees.

"They are working hard to water these during the warmer weather but would appreciate some help.

"Can you spare some used washing up/bath water & help keep our new trees watered? Take care if trees are near roads."
