A BOROUGH councillor has spoken glowingly of the speed of response after a tree fell on a busy road in his ward and another, that was on the verge of falling, was made safe.

The incident happened 1pm today (Monday, 15 September) on Branksome Avenue on the Homesteads estate in Stanford-le-Hope.

One tree fell acros the road while another looked very unsteady as high winds swept the area.

The fire service turned out initially but were quickly followed by Thurrock Council's environment team.

The council team at work to make a tree safe.

Ward councillor Gary Byrne said: "The response was excellent. First from the fire service, then the council who got the road clear then made sure a second tree was not left in a state to present any danger.

"At a time when local services are frequently questionned it was heartening to see this level of positive action and I would commend all involved."
